I am a mixed-media artist living and working in Greenville, South Carolina. Painting is my first l’ve. My canvases are typically large and the subject matter flowers or landscapes. My garden is my inspiration and model for most of my paintings. The images are large, bright, colorful and the canvases are rich with texture. I try to exploit the "impression" of a flower or landscape, to the point of abstraction most times, rather than taking a realistic approach. It's always a challenge to create a painting that communicates my fascination with mother nature and the beauty that surrounds us.
I'm not sure when or why I became so fascinated with collages--I've been making them in one form or another since I was a kid. I'm also a HUGE fan of Robert Rauschenburg, Jasper Johns, Jackson Pollock and Marcel Duchamp, and of course the Post/Impressionist Painters. Similar to my paintings, the collage end product is not as important as the process to create the piece. I am especially driven by the creative process with Encaustic Collages. I use wax with old found objects, acrylic paint and vintage style costume jewelry to create something new from the old. These pieces are some of my favorites and become subtly graceful, subliminal, and engaging.
As a member of the Artist Guild Gallery of Greenville I display my art regularly. Outside of The Guild Gallery I participate in group exhibitions and single artist shows in Greenville and the surrounding area. My work is in private collections in Minnesota, Virginia, South Carolina and Florida. I hold two Bachelor of Fine Art Degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia. One degree is in Sculpture and the other in Painting & Printmaking. My time at VCU taught me more than merely professional techniques, my time there taught me to see my surroundings in an insightful way and reinforced my drive to capture these visions for others.
